THE BUILDING TRADES

The Indiana State Building & Construction Trades Council is an independent, umbrella, labor organization representing Indiana's construction unions. The council represents more than 75,000 working men and women who are members of 127 affiliated local building trades unions. The executive board of the state council is comprised of elected representatives from each of the 15 affiliated international building trades unions.  Organized in 1910, the state council is charted through the the national Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO (1961) and is affiliated with the Indiana AFL-CIO.

The council coordinates activities of common interest to its affiliated building trades unions and provides resources to Indiana's 13 local Building and Construction Trades Councils (BCTCs). The council works to promote economic development, work site safety, and apprenticeship and journey-level training. The council also works to help its affiliated unions organize new workers, pass legislation that positively affects working families, and assist in the securing of better wages, hours and working conditions through collective bargaining.
